Email Blast Design

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

New work for Tory Burch. I designed two versions for their email blast, so they could find out which layout produced more traffic to the site. I received version 2 in my email as seen below. Update:4.22.09: The one featured below was less effective. I think the attention is too unfocused. I like the model shot and the version where it is a full page really comes together for me. Also a big Shoe & Handbag sale is going on now at Toryburch.com so head on over and get yourself some savings.

Tory Burch

So I’ve been working (unpaid) at Tory Burch a few days a week to stay sane and not go crazy selling cupcakes. Also to build out professional connections, keep up with html, and build on my photoshop and design skills a bit more. My first codesign work is up on the site. I worked on it with Abby the flash and graphic designer as well as with alot of input from Honor editor in chief of web content at toryburch.com. Abby and I have been passing projects back and forth which works great except a few font issues between windows and OS X. So check it out and learn about fancy tunics that “are flattering on women of all ages”. You can even dress them up or down. If you head to toryburch.com click the picture in the dead center with Tory in a Tunic.

Electro:Odyssey

I just finished up the flier for a series of shows by the Better Ventures crew (Greg and Billy). If your into house and/or techno check out this 3 DJ and 3 city event in Asheville, Charlotte, and Charleston. For more info check out the event page on betterventures.net. The posters are getting printed on 11×17 so the design can look a bit odd in your web browser but posted up on a street pole or a wall is much different. The event page has a larger version for your perusal.

Do not lean on this odd sign

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

The New York subway uses Helvetica in almost all of its signs. But an odd thing pops up on some of the “Do not lean on door” signs. I can’t find anything online about it other than one livejournal mention of the anomaly with no conclusion.  Basically the “o”s seem to be turned and “n” gets a bit of a chop and one the letters don’t all seem to be on the same baseline. I’ve been noticing it for the past few months and been trying to figure out why these signs are so weird. It’s wide spread and standardized throughout the signs so it’s not an instance of one being mutilated or vandalized. Any ideas? If your interested in a detailed write up on the MTA and their typography check it out on the AIGA website.
